We are a World War II historical recreation society based in the southeastern
United States. Our purpose is to respectfully and accurately portray the
United States Army Paratrooper of World War II. We participate in many
events such as living histories, public & school demonstrations, and
battle reenactments throughout the southeastern United States. Our main
impression is of the 101st 506 Item Company, however we have expanded
and are now doing multiple impressions of other airborne groups. All members
are expected to achieve an accurate knowledge of the equipment, campaigns
and attitude of the United States paratrooper during World War II.
The organization was founded by Edward McAlister during the summer of
1999 with a vision to educate and inform America's youth and the public
in general. He soon realized that a great opportunity was at hand, to
meet World War II veterans and their families in order gain a better understanding
of the common soldier's struggle during WW II. Since that time the unit
has grown, with members from all over the Florida, Georgia and even Alabama.
Our member base runs spans all ages, as young as 16 to as old as 50. In
2003 the group decided to embark on building impressions of the 11th,
13th, 17th, and 82nd Airborne Divisions, as some are not well represented
if at all at events.
In this time we have had the great pleasure to meet and talk to these
fine
men
who sacrificed so much for their country.
Our goal in participating at events is to honor the memory of the valiant
men and women who fought and served during World War II so that their
sacrifices and deeds are not forgotten by those today and future
generations to come.
Membership is open to anyone (regardless of race or gender) who has an
interest in World War II history and is ready and willing to responsibly
and accurately experience a very small part of what it was like to be
a
U.S. soldier about to embark upon the Great Crusade. A correct, authentic
period impression runs requires personal time and dedication. Unit dues
($20.00/year) are collected once a year and are used to fund group projects
and other administrative costs.
Having a nice impression and being interested in history is a good starting
point and an introduction to the hobby, but there is a lot more to this
then looking sharp and knowing facts. New members are drilled in the basic
schooling of the soldier and will learn to follow the military protocol
of
the period at the appropriate times. In portraying airborne, our group
is
very aggressive physically, and it is best to be in good physical shape.
There are positions in the group for rear area personnel, so if you
discover being in the field is not your thing you may still have an active
roll in the group.
To contact the group about membership, events you would like us to attend,
or anything else please feel free to send an email to any of the addresses
below. We strongly recommend posting any correspondence on our public
message forum. We are always looking for new recruits and events to participate
in. We look forward to hearing from you!
